From the Principal's Desk
Mount Horeb School is a pre-K through grade 5 school with a total enrollment of approximately 365 students.
The Mount Horeb staff is very excited about the 2010-2011 school year. We continue our ongoing efforts to provide the community the best educational program possible. Teachers continue to participate in extensive professional development programs to refine their skills in a wide variety of areas, including Smartboard integration, language arts instruction, and techniques to address the wide variety of learning styles that enter the school doors every day.
The Mount Horeb staff looks forward to working closely with the school community during the 2010-2011 school year. This year our school theme is “Gators Give Back.” As a community, we look forward to participating in a number of programs that emphasize the importance of community service in making a positive difference in the school and the community at large. We look forward to continued participation in programs like the Wagner Farms Giving Gardens Project, Second Chance Toys, and Operation Shoebox. The assembly programs, donation of resources, and countless PTO volunteer hours enhance the programs offered by the staff.
The development of children’s social and emotional growth continues to be an area that the entire staff emphasizes. It is essential that all adult members of the school community, staff and parents, recognize that we are role models for our children. We must remember that children learn through observing us daily – it is essential that we model strong character as a community. In doing so, we will continue to emphasize the six pillars of character education: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. To further promote students’ emotional literacy, we look forward to emphasizing the district’s RAISE Responsibility System as part of our overall approach to developing students’ character development.
Through a combination of PTO gifts and private and school grants, Mount Horeb School now has 20 Smartboards. This technology is available in the Grade 5, Grade 4, Grade 3, and Grade 2 classrooms. In addition, the computer lab, music room, Spanish room, and library each have Smartboards. This technology is an outstanding instructional tool. Teachers and students are very excited to utilize this important resource.
The Mount Horeb School staff is eager to address the complexities associated with educating children in the 21st century. We look forward to working with parents and the surrounding community in meeting our students’ needs. We constantly challenge ourselves to engage in professional development, enhance our ability to meet children’s individual needs, and strive to differentiate instruction so all students work up to their own unique and individual abilities.
Sincerely,
William Kimmick
