Numerous special education presentations are available to parents, which are provided by Warren Schools Student Personnel Services, Child Study Team, outside specialist presenters, parent support groups, the Morris Union Jointure Commission, etc. Please refer to the calendar of events and the links which describe individual programs of interest.

Office of Youth Services workshop, titled "No More Meltdowns: Handling Challenging Behaviors and Teaching Social Skills,"
Thursday, February 09, 2012 at 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9, at Somerville Middle School, located at 51 West Cliff St. Registration starts at 5:30 p.m. Parking is available behind the school and on the street.Managing behavioral challenges can be one of the most daunting aspects of parenting or teaching. An Office of Youth Services workshop, titled "No More Meltdowns: Handling Challenging Behaviors and Teaching Social Skills," will be held Feb. 9. Managing Behavioral Challenges and Social Skills SOMERVILLE - Students with autism spectrum disorders and others with communication issues may have difficulty regulating their feelings and interacting socially. Managing childrennâs behavioral challenges can be one of the most daunting aspects of parenting or teaching. The Somerset County Office of Youth Services will sponsor a workshop, titled âNo More Meltdowns: Handling Challenging Behaviors and Teaching Social Skills,,â from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9, at Somerville Middle School, located at 51 West Cliff St. Registration starts at 5:30 p.m. Parking is available behind the school and on the street. The program is intended for both parents and professionals who work with children and families. The workshop fee is $15 per person or $30 for professionals who wish to obtain three hours of Professional Development Credits. Keynote speaker Dr. Jed Baker is the director of the Social Skills Training Project, an organization that serves individuals with autism and social communication problems. During the program, Dr. Baker will discuss ways that adults can manage meltdowns, identify triggers and design behavior plans that help to reduce childrennâs frustration and anxiety. He also will review strategies for prioritizing goals and motivating and teaching children. The program will include a Q&A session where participants can interact with Dr. Baker. Dr. Baker is on the professional advisory board of Autism Today, ASPEN, YAI, the Kelberman Center and several other autism organizations. An award-winning author of five books, he has been featured on ABC World News, Nightline, Fox News, the CBS Early Show and the Discovery Health Channel. Payment will be accepted at the door, or it can be mailed in advance to Cindy Britt, Somerset County Office of Youth Services, PO Box 3000, Somerville, NJ 08876.
